The Resilient Kids program has achieved a significant milestone, with MP Ms Tamara Smith (Ballina) officially recognising its outstanding contributions in the NSW Parliament Legislative Assembly.

In her letter, Ms Smith congratulated the program on winning the 2025 NSW Resilient Australia Award for mental health. She highlighted the program’s vital role in supporting the health and wellbeing of school-aged young people in the Northern Rivers, particularly in the face of natural disasters.

Delivered by Social Futures and supported by The Family Centre, Human Nature Therapy, and Lives Lived Well, the Resilient Kids program has made a profound impact since its launch in October 2023. Reaching nearly 12,000 young people aged 8-18, the program offers a wide range of services, including counselling, peer support, creative therapies, and Aboriginal community-led initiatives.

Ms Smith commended the program’s inclusive approach, particularly its focus on supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander youth, LGBTIQ young people, those living with neurodiversity, and those disengaged from traditional schooling.

As the lead agency, Social Futures was praised for its exceptional work in building community resilience through local hubs and outreach to smaller, more remote communities.

This recognition in Parliament underscores the transformative impact of the Resilient Kids program and its commitment to empowering the next generation. Congratulations to everyone involved in this incredible achievement!

The Resilient Kids program is funded by Healthy North Coast through a grant provided by the Australian Government.
