Volunteering & Student Placements

We value our volunteers

There are lots of ways to volunteer at Social Futures, and you can expect to learn a lot from us by supporting the important work we do. Not only will you learn new skills, but you will make new friends, and we will strive to ensure that your experience volunteering with us is a great one.

Many of our volunteers come to us through student placements. If you would like to apply for a volunteer position or a student placement position, email: [email protected]

Frequently asked questions

  • Do you accept student placements?
Yes we do –  we are able to support limited student placements throughout the year in some of our programs. We will post an Expression of Interest (EOI) on our Work with Us page when there are placement vacancies –  limited opportunities will be available outside our EOI window.
  • Do I need a ‘Working With Children’ check?
Yes – any volunteer or student placement in our NSW teams will be required to have a current Working with Children Check (volunteer type is acceptable). Placements in Queensland will need a BlueCard.
  • How long do I need to commit for?
The length and type of commitment expected from volunteers and student placements varies and can be negotiated to suit. Longer placements provide better opportunities for learning and with some programs (e.g. Clubhouse) we ask for a six month commitment.
  • What types of volunteer positions are available?
Volunteers can be involved in a range of our work and activities from administration to program delivery across our wide range of participant groups. We also welcome volunteers in our
ICT, Finance, community development and engagement activities including the Lismore Young Songwriters Competition. Please indicate your skills and interests on the application form.
  • Can I volunteer as part of my Centrelink agreement?
Yes, Social Futures is approved for customers meeting their Centrelink obligations.
