NSW Youth Week Kick Flips and Tail Whips at Yamba Skate Park. Celebrating Youth Week in the Clarence Valley, Social Futures Getting it Together and Reconnect youth teams, in collaboration with Clarence Valley Council, Bulgarr Ngaru Medical Aboriginal Corporation, and The New School Of Arts.

Social Futures, Children Youth and Families program manager, Kiara McBeath, highlighted the importance of the event, not just as a high-energy skate and scooter competition, but as a way to celebrate Youth Week’s theme of recognising young people’s strengths.

“This much-loved annual event is more than just a comp – it’s a space where young people can connect, feel supported, and celebrate their passions, whether they’re competing, hanging out, or just watching some insane tricks,” said Ms McBeath.

“Skating and scooting are all about progression – falling, getting back up, and landing that trick you’ve been working on. In life, it’s the same.

“Through the Getting it Together and Reconnect programs, we help young people who feel like they might be in a downward spiral to find their own way forward.

“Events like this are a reminder that no matter where you’re at, you’ve got the power to shape your own future.”

Clarence Valley Mayor Ray Smith said that much like our Clarence Valley Youth Week, events such as the Kick Flips and Tail Whips competition continue to grow in size and quality each year.

“Collaborations like the one between Council, Bulgarr Ngaru Medical Aboriginal Corporation, and The New School of Arts are what make these events such a fantastic experience for our youth.”

With age division heats and $2,000 in prizes, there was a spot for everyone at the Clarence Valley Youth Week skateboard and scooter competition!
