The Federal Government is moving to a new model for home care service delivery, stemming from recommendations from the Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety.

The workshops and forums, which will brief industry on the changing standards, are being run from July until December by Tweed Shire Council and the not-for-profit organisation Social Futures.

Tweed Shire Council’s Community Care Coordinator Jo Watters said local providers of the Commonwealth Home Support Programme did valuable work in the community and the workshops would give them key information on updated standards coming into effect in July 2025.

“A range of skilled industry experts will deliver information to providers and their staff on how to adapt to changes within the aged care sector,” Ms Watters said.

“The first event will be the Aged Care Quality Standards Workshop for Commonwealth Home Support Programme services, which has been developed in conjunction with our event partner the Aged and Community Care Providers Association (ACCPA).

“Workshop participants will be able to grow their knowledge of the Aged Care Quality Standards with their network of peers and share stories, expert practical advice and of course evidence-based case studies.”

The first workshop will be held on Friday 21 July from 9.30 am to 4 pm at the Tweed Heads Administration Building, Brett Street, Tweed Heads. Entry is free but bookings are essential.

The strengthened Quality Standards are due to be implemented in July 2025 through the new Aged Care Act.

Social Futures Social Strategy Team Leader Ian O’Reilly said ACCPA would present just four of these quality standards workshops in NSW, including the Tweed event.

“I am pleased the Tweed is hosting this workshop for service providers in Northern NSW and South East Queensland,” Mr O’Reilly said.

“We know from past events that our network of providers gain knowledge through contextualised learnings and shared experience – from this idea we have developed a rolling calendar of workshops and forums built off the positive feedback received after previous events of this nature.”

Speakers will include Anna Millicer and Clare Cameron from ACCPA’s consulting team.

Other workshops and forums scheduled from August through to December will cover strategic thinking and planning, finance and implementing the Aged Care Diversity Framework.
