On this third anniversary of the 2022 Northern Rivers floods, we pause to reflect on an event that changed our communities. The scale of devastation was unlike anything seen before—thousands of homes lost, so many lives uprooted. We acknowledge the immense pain and loss our community has endured; but we also recognise the extraordinary courage and compassion which emerged in the face of adversity.
On this third anniversary of the Northern Rivers 2022 floods, we pause to reflect on an event that changed our communities. The scale of devastation was unlike anything seen before—thousands of homes lost, so many lives uprooted.
We acknowledge the immense pain and loss our community has endured; but we also recognise the extraordinary courage and compassion which emerged in the face of adversity.
We appreciate that while some have been able to rebuild, repair, or relocate, many in our community are still waiting for a place to call home again. The process of healing continues.
As a sponsor of ‘Stronger Together’, a community gathering in the newly reopened Quad hosted by Resilient Lismore, Social Futures encourages the whole community to come together—if it feels right for you—on 1 March from 3.30 pm to 7 pm for a relaxed evening of music, family time, and connecting.

Through the hardship, we have seen volunteers, neighbours, and local organisations step up in remarkable ways.
At Social Futures, we have been involved in supporting people impacted by the floods through many of our programs. The housing crisis that existed before the disaster was magnified by the loss of so many homes, making it even harder for people to find stable, long-term accommodation.
In response, we are working to support people into safe, supported temporary accommodation and offering access to wraparound support services to support them to rebuild their lives.
Recovery is not just about rebuilding what was lost—it is about creating a stronger, more resilient, and more inclusive future, where everyone has a place to belong.
