Children are curious. They want to know and to understand the world around them. When it comes to children asking questions about people living with disability, it might be a parent’s innate reaction to ‘shoosh’ them, and tell them not to ask, or not to look. Often however, it is children asking with the intention of learning, rather than judging.
So, how then should parents respond and teach their children about disability and difference?
The answer is here in a wonderful article by the ABC’s Naz Campanella and featuring our very own Maree Jenner who delivers a Social Futures disability inclusion program for schools.
Social Futures delivers a range of disability inclusion programs for schools – have a look here for more information, or call 1800 522 679 and have a chat to our friendly staff about how our free inclusion programs can benefit your school.
