Ground Up Youth Collective

Ground Up Youth Collective is empowering young people to get involved in their community and build a stronger sense of belonging. The program supports youth through events and initiatives like High Schoolers Haven, a monthly hangout space designed for teens.

This program will focus on supporting youth across Lismore, Goonellabah, Casino, and Coraki with a focus on place-based youth engagement initiatives and targeted early intervention.

The program name, Ground Up Youth Collective, was chosen by young people at a recent High Schoolers Haven hangout.

High Schoolers Haven

High Schoolers Haven is a monthly hangout space held on a Friday night, 4-7 pm at the YWCA Goonellabah, where teens can:

  • learn new skills,
  • connect with others,
  • share their thoughts,
  • have fun in a safe environment.

Lismore City Council ran a pilot series for High Schoolers Haven from July to November 2024, with incredible success. The Council has now handed the program over to Social Futures to continue creating and promoting wellbeing initiatives for children and young people. Social Futures remains committed to advocating for and alongside young people, to exploring new opportunities and seeking innovative ways to continue delivering meaningful outcomes for our community.
