Youth on Track is moving on

From January 2024 the Youth on Track Program in Coffs Harbour and Grafton will be delivered by Ab Care, an Aboriginal foster care & social support service.

Youth on Track is an early intervention service for 10 – 17-year-olds which helps youth to identify issues, work on solutions, reduce risky behaviour and make positive life choices.

Social Futures is proud to have worked with more than 350 young people over seven years through the Youth on Track program, supporting them to break away from a cycle of offending and learn how to make positive life choices.

We played football, basketball and went to the gym. We learnt to journal and make our own skin care. We went snorkelling and visited rock pools, and enjoyed yarning sessions with our Elders. There were lots of other things as well of course, but what we appreciate most is the time we spent with all of our participants – we wish you all well.

We know that Ab Care, as the new provider of the Youth on Track program, will continue providing services to the highest standard.

Social Futures and Ab Care will be working together closely to make sure that the transition over is seamless.

We would like to thank our Youth on Track team who have done such incredible work over the past seven years, as well as all of the organisations we worked with over this time – a special thanks to Coffs Clarence Police who co-facilitated spaces with Social Futures to provide connection, engagement and supported the success of the program.

About Youth on Track

Youth on Track is an early intervention service for 10 – 17 year olds which helps youth to identify issues, work on solutions, reduce risky behaviour and make positive life choices.

The scheme offers intensive one on one support to young people who have had formal contact with police. Each young person is allocated a Case Manager and each case plan is tailor made and targeted to the needs of the young person.

The key principles of the Youth on Track model include:

  • intervening earlier to divert young people from the criminal justice system
  • one-on-one case management to manage and support juvenile offenders and those at risk of offending
  • separating treatment from punishment
  • responding to risk and need rather than simply to crime
  • responding promptly to enable a response to an immediate problem.

Youth on Track is funded by the
NSW Department of Communities and Justice.
