Vicarious Trauma Workshop 23 April

23 April 2018 @ 9:00 am - 4:00 pm

$250

Event Navigation

This workshop is for anyone working / supporting in the human services sector whose clients have experiences of traumatic life events, including physical, emotional, psychological abuse.

Participation Price: CHSP/CCSP Worker $210 / All Others $250.

Learning detailed accounts of these experiences and / or supporting clients through them can be stressful and distressing for the support worker as a natural part of connecting and empathising.  An accumulation of this stress can be damaging and result in burnout among other consequences, if not addressed.

The workshop will cover a range of topics including:

  • Defining vicarious trauma and identifying signs and symptoms
  • Psychoeducation about stress and burnout and the warning signs
  • Treatment and self-management of vicarious trauma and how to support colleagues

This will be a highly interactive workshop of about 15 participants and will include practical exercises including individual wellness and self-check exercises.

Facilitator: Michaela Killips of Mullumbimby Psychology, is a registered psychologist (AHPRA) and training consultant with a Master of Health Science, Behavioural Science from the University of Sydney and a Cert. IV in Assessment and Workplace Training. Michaela is passionate about facilitating adaptive change at both individual and organisational levels. She also provides individual professional coaching, mentoring, debriefing and counselling, utilising a wide range of evidence based therapeutic techniques.
