Mental Health Awareness – Lismore

12 June 2018 @ 9:00 am - 12:30 pm

Event Navigation

This Free half day workshop is aimed at professionals working in the ageing and disability sectors and aims to build your awareness of mental health problems and how to respond.

Participants will get an overview of common mental health problems, how you may encounter these through your work, what sort of help has been shown by research to be effective, signs of a mental health crisis and who can help.

    Mental health issues explored include:

    • Depression
    • Anxiety
    • Trauma
    • Psychosis
    • Substance use problems

At the end of this course participants will be more aware and able to recognise common mental health problems and who to turn to for supporting clients. Please note that this is not a Mental Health First Aid Course (which is a two-day program) but it does build awareness around mental health and mental health first aid.

About the trainer: Stephen Carrigg is a registered nurse with 28 years clinical experience in acute mental health services. He has extensive experience in community mental health teams in rural and remote parts of Australia and has previously worked in the Kimberley and NT regions for 13 years. He has also completed formal training in forensic mental health nursing and previously worked in that specialised field. Steve has a passion for youth and Aboriginal mental health and currently works for the Northern NSW Local Health District’s Rural Adversity Mental Health Program (RAMHP).
