Free Deaf Awareness Training

    This two-hour deaf awareness training is designed to help organisations improve their service delivery to deaf clients and ensure that deaf colleagues are included in the team. The course provides information and practical tips to improve interactions with deaf people.

    Participants will learn:

    • about the misconceptions and realities around deafness and the notion of the Deaf Community;
    • practical strategies to make the workplace more inclusive of deaf people;
    • practical communication skills for interactions with deaf people;
    • about the practical applications of technology in the workplace; and
    • about the role of an Auslan interpreter and best practice for working with a deaf person and an Auslan interpreter

    Presenter: Simon Mahony, Northern NSW – Lead Trainer & Team Leader, The Deaf Society, together with Auslan interpreters Samuel Wheat and Belinda Wheat

    Registration, Payment and Cancellation Policy:

    Registration is required to secure your place in Social Futures’ workshops. For fee-paying workshops, you may pay by credit card or by Electronic Funds Transfer upon check out. Your registration details will be confirmed upon receipt of your payment.

    As we are a not for profit organisation we are unable to provide refunds, but are if you are unable to attend, you may transfer your place to another person who meets the entry criteria. Please let us know of any changes to the participants who will attend.

    Workshops may occasionally be cancelled due to insufficient numbers. If this is necessary, we will notify you as soon as possible and a full refund will be given.
