Commonwealth Home Support Program Introduction

Introduction to Abuse of Older People

Refresher for your team meeting (duration: 30 minutes) This is an opportunity for Community Care Assistants to be updated on elder abuse. It provides some statistics and covers the definition and forms of abuse that older community members may be exposed to and how to recognise the signs of abuse from a frontline staff perspective. This can be delivered to your team meeting in 30 minutes which includes a brief power point presentation and group discussion.

Identify & Responding to the Abuse of Older People – 5 Step approach

The 5-step approach provides a framework for agencies that have staff, including volunteers, in position where the abuse of an older person may be suspected, witness, or disclosed. Identifying that an older person is or may be experiencing abuse is the first step and agency staff are often best placed to recognise changes that may suggest an older person is being abused.
