Understanding Dementia, Effective Communication & Future Planning
This free information session covers an introduction to dementia for family carers and explains the causes of dementia, the importance of diagnosis and early planning. The session will also explore changes in communication that occur for a person with dementia, problems that may arise from communication breakdown and helpful suggestions for easing communication challenges for the person with dementia.
As a carer, attending this information session will provide you with:
Opportunities to meet and talk with other carers & families involved in dementia care
A deeper understanding of the impacts of dementia including why changes are occurring
Information and contact details of local support services available to you

Presenter: Judy Bartholomew of Dementia Australia
Judy Bartholomew of Dementia Australia, is an aged care and dementia specialist with 26 years experiece encompasing residential aged care settings; community based services; Aged Care Assessment Teams (ACATs); and government services. Judy is an experienced trainer with a Masters in Public Health and a BA in Social Welfare.
